Lawyers to investigate claims of GB power grid cover-up over blackout risk

Britain's grid operator, the National Energy System Operator (Neso), has hired an independent legal firm to investigate whistleblower allegations of a cover-up regarding blackout risks during a June heatwave. The whistleblower claimed staff were warned against leaving a paper trail about efforts to stabilize the grid, and that senior bosses risked blackouts to protect Neso's reputation. The accusations, raised in parliament by shadow minister Claire Coutinho, follow data showing the power grid frequency fell below operational limits as the heatwave reduced renewable generation and caused gas plant outages.
