Current news should stay narrow

If you ask Mu for “AI news” and get back a story about a crypto token jumping because a company mentioned AI, that’s not actually AI news — it’s market noise wearing the label. The same goes for broad finance roundups that happen to include a sentence about an AI startup. That’s why Mu now filters out broad finance, crypto-token moves, and generic market-mover results when the subject is clearly about a specific domain like AI. The answer should be about the thing you asked, not about everything that contains the word.

This is a question of respect for the subject. When you ask for current news, you expect the answer to be fresh and tightly scoped. Mu checks the date and the source category. If the only stories available are older or from a tangential beat, the answer leads with that caveat before listing anything. We’d rather say “here’s what I found, but it’s from two days ago and these are mostly financial wrap-ups” than pretend every result is a perfect match.

The trade-off is honest: sometimes the filter leaves you with a shorter list. That’s fine. Narrow and truthful beats broad and misleading. Mu doesn’t pad results to make the answer look smarter. If the evidence is thin, you’ll know. If the news is stale, you’ll know. The goal is to make the answer useful for what you actually need, not for what a search engine might serve.
