The Conservatives proposed banning foreign nationals from social housing, claiming it would free up about 230,000 homes for British families, including ending new tenancies and removing current non-qualifying tenants within six months. Labour dismissed the plan as “an unserious, unworkable proposal,” while Shelter’s chief executive called it “divisive” and said it would brutally evict thousands of families and pensioners.
