SK Hynix announced a 54 trillion won ($38.1 billion) investment to build two new memory chip plants in South Korea, with 35.2 trillion won going to a DRAM/HBM fab in Yongin and 19.1 trillion won to a NAND facility in Cheongju. The move comes as memory prices surge due to supply shortages and strong AI-driven demand from firms like Nvidia. Construction is slated to begin in 2027, with the first cleanrooms opening in late 2028 and mid-2029.
