前衛芸術家の草間弥生さんが14日、多臓器不全のため都内の病院で97歳で死去した。カラフルな水玉や網目模様、カボチャのオブジェで世界的に知られ、幼少期の幻覚をモチーフにした作品で高い評価を受けた。1957年に渡米してニューヨークを拠点に活動し、帰国後も国内外で回顧展が開かれるなど、国際的な名声を確立した。
