A New Mexico court ordered Meta to pay $567m into a fund to address mental health harms to children, bringing the total penalty to $942m after a previous $375m fine. The bulk of the money will go toward treatment services for young people in the state, with the remainder for awareness, prevention, and screening. The ruling follows a landmark trial that found Meta knowingly harmed children’s mental health and concealed child sexual exploitation on its platforms.
