Meta ordered to pay $567 million into abatement fund as remedy to child harms case in New Mexico

A judge in New Mexico ordered Meta to pay $567 million into an abatement fund after a jury found the company violated the state’s unfair practices act, with the judge ruling that Meta’s platforms are a significant contributing factor to the youth mental health crisis in the state. Most of the fund—$420 million—is earmarked for treatment of those harmed, with the remainder going to awareness, prevention, and related programs.
